Cowboys RB coach Jeff Blasko taking 'health leave of absence' before season opener.

In addition to numerous high-profile Cowboys players on the injury report for the 2023 season opener versus the Giants, the team will be without an assistant coach.

Cowboys running backs coach Jeff Blasko is on a “health leave of absence,” the team said.

Blasko is in his fourth year at Dallas, but his first as RB coach.

The Cowboys' injury report stated, “his coaching duties will be shared by the offensive staff.”

DallasCowboys.com's Patrik Walker wrote, “I expect Mike Solari and Brian Schottenheimer to take the lead there.”

Both coaches have extensive professional football experience, although they're new coaches for 2023.

Recent injuries to starting left tackle Tyron Smith and left guard Tyler Smith may complicate Solari's OL coaching duties in Week 1.

The Cowboys are scant behind them, therefore Brock Hoffman may be called up from the practice squad versus the Giants.
