It seemed impulsive for the Dallas Cowboys to deal for third-round quarterback Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers
on August 25 in return for a 2024 fourth-round pick. That's correct, it was. Even head coach Mike McCarthy
was kept in the dark about the details of the contract until it was finalized by team owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
According to Jones, "No, we, we didn't tell anybody until we did it, period," before the Cowboys' preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
"There was nobody who was aware of it. After we finished, we told Mike [McCarthy], but the point is, we were only interested in finishing.
Once more, we wasted no time. My argument is that we didn't want them to hang up because we didn't want them to do it.
Jones reiterated his remarks on Tuesday, claiming that as the Cowboys' owner and general manager,
