This Monday, a complaint was filed in California accusing Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball, his family's business, and PUMA of fraud. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Alan Foster, a former friend and business advisor, alleges fraud, unfair business practices, and trademark infringement.
Foster claimed in the lawsuit that he helped the Ball family create the "Big Baller Brand" in early 2016. According to TMZ Sports, Foster says in the lawsuit that he created LaMelo's "MB1" sneaker brand and registered for multiple trademarks relating to it.
Foster claimed in the suit, "LaMelo was instrumental in creating his first signature shoe with Big Baller Brand," according to TMZ. "He was fully aware of the LaMelo trademarks' existence; he assisted in their design."
"He was aware that his Big Baller Brand signature shoe was known as the'MB1' and that the name was protected by federal trademark." Despite this, LaMelo willingly and deliberately chose to designate the signature shoe he constructed and designed with PUMA the 'MB1' in violation of the LaMelo trademarks."
Foster is suing for more than $200 million in damages. Foster and Big Baller Brand have been at odds for some time, with Foster previously suing LaVar and Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball in 2019, alleging the Balls stole millions from Big Baller Brand to maintain a lavish lifestyle. Lonzo sued Foster for $2 million after discovering Foster had done time in prison for money laundering in 2002, according to ESPN at the time.
