A person has been taken into custody after a police car was allegedly stolen and crashed into two parked cars in Auckland’s Manukau this afternoon.

In a statement, police said a person stole a police vehicle from Puhinui Rd just after 1pm while officers were attending an “urgent matter”.

A police spokesperson said the offender drove the police vehicle off “at speed”.

“A few minutes later, the police vehicle has collided with two stationary vehicles at the intersection of Great South Rd and Alfriston Rd,” police said.

The police car being removed from the scene on the Great North Road intersection.

Two members of the public suffered moderate and minor injuries during this incident, and were attended to by ambulance staff.

“Police took the offender into custody a short time later with the help of a member of the public, and are considering charges,” a spokesperson confirmed.

Auckland Transport confirmed the crash had since been cleared and the road has reopened.
