Emergency services are responding to a serious crash between a truck and empty bus that closed State Highway 1 at Marton for “several hours” this morning.
Police said the two-vehicle crash was reported at around 8.50am.
“The road is blocked at the rail overbridge between Wings Ln and Calico Ln,” a spokesperson said.
“Information will be released proactively when we are in a position to do so.”

St John said it responded with one ambulance and one operations manager.
Fire and Emergency NZ said it was in attendance at the scene to assist police and ambulance.
“Three units of rescue tenders were sent,” a spokesperson said.
Diversions were in place and police advised motorists to expect delays.
“The serious crash unit is attending.”
NZTA said the “serious crash” has closed a section of State Highway 1 near Calico Ln.
“Please avoid the area or consider using an alternate route.
“The road will remain closed for several hours.”
