A vehicle has been impounded in Levin after it was allegedly driven at a patrol car overnight, and then failed to stop, police say.

The vehicle was later impounded, however inquiries were underway to identify the driver at the time of the incident.

At the same time, police said they were also investigating an incident in the early hours of Saturday, August 23, when shots were allegedly fired towards a house in Vincent Street.

The latest incidents followed several acts of violence police have previously blamed on an internal gang feud which had escalated into multiple shootings.

A Gang Conflict Warrant was put in place in Levin on Thursday, August 21 after four firearms incidents in as many days.

Police area commander inspector Ash Gurney said the warrant gave police additional powers to deal with threats, and it would “use the law to its full extent”.

“I want to reassure our local community that we are continuing to have a visible police presence in Levin while we conduct our enquiries.

“Investigations are ongoing in relation to recent activity and police continue to appeal for information.

“Anyone with information that can assist in our investigation is urged to contact Police.”
