Police have suspended the search for a swimmer reported missing off Auckland’s Whangaparāoa Peninsula earlier this month.

Emergency services were called to the Gulf Harbour Marina area on the evening of January 14 after a male was seen in difficulty in the water.

A police spokesperson said officers had coordinated a “significant search” with the help of Coastguard over the last 10 days but hadn’t located anyone.

“Today, police have made the decision to suspend the search, pending further information.”

However, the Auckland Maritime Unit continues to appeal to the public for sightings of the swimmer.

“We continue to ask anyone who may have seen a person entering the water entered the water from the rock breakwater, near the entrance to the Gulf Harbour Marina, Whangaparāoa Peninsula, between 4 and 8pm to please get in touch.”
