A man is due to appear in court after a road worker was critically injured by a speeding car in Waikato yesterday afternoon.
Roading contractors were working on Waharoa’s Dunlop Rd “with safety measures in place” when a white Haval SUV allegedly sped through the work site, hitting one of the workers shortly after midday, police said.
A 28-year-old man is due to appear in the Hamilton District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, threatening to kill, and failing to stop and ascertain injury.
Police believe the driver had been involved in an “altercation” at a nearby commercial premises shortly before the incident, “where he had threatened and assaulted staff prior to driving off at speed”.
Anyone who witnessed the earlier incident or the white Haval have been asked to contact police.
