An Auckland mall has reopened to the public after the police bomb squad assessed and removed an “unidentified item” this morning.

Cordons were put in place at the scene at The Zone shopping centre on Manukau Rd, Pukekohe, after emergency services were called.

Police said the object has been assessed by the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team and does not present a “wider risk to the public”.

“It has been removed and the cordons in the area have been stood down,” a spokesperson.

“Police would like to thank the public and those working at the premises for complying with Police requests while we responded to the matter.”

The Zone shopping centre houses several well-known retailers, including Chemist Warehouse, Kathmandu, and The Warehouse.

It is also near the Pukekohe train station, which is currently closed.
