A police vehicle crashed into the back of a Crown car carrying Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Finance Minister Nicola Willis yesterday.

No one was injured in the “nose to tail incident”, the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) said.

Speaking to media this afternoon, Luxon called it a “very minor incident” and said “everyone’s good”.

“It was just a bit of a shock, but it was all good, we’re all fine,” he said.

“Honestly, these things happen and everyone in our team handled it so professionally and so well.”

‘Minor’ collision

“Police can confirm a minor nose-to-tail collision involving two official vehicles was reported yesterday,” a police spokesperson said.

“Around 3.30pm, a police vehicle collided with a Crown vehicle on Cobham Drive, Wellington.

“No injuries were reported, and the crash did not involve any members of the public.

“An investigation has been launched following this incident, as per protocol.”

A DIA spokesperson said: “The Crown car sustained damage to the rear of the vehicle.”
