A man has been arrested after allegedly presenting a firearm towards someone in Auckland yesterday.
Police seized a loaded 3D printed firearm and a makeshift taser in connection with the incident.
Police were responding to a family harm incident when they were flagged down by a man on Te Irirangi Dr at around 6.20am yesterday.
Inspector Rakana Cook said the victim told police he was drinking with a group at the Manukau Velodrome when one person presented a firearm towards him before leaving in a BMW.
“The police Eagle helicopter was in the area and located five vehicles at the velodrome, one of which matched the description provided by the victim.”
Units signalled for the vehicle to stop but it fled toward Clover Park, police said.
Police did not initiate a pursuit and the vehicle came to a stop after driving over bollards, Cook said.
“The driver has attempted to run from the vehicle, however police have quickly taken him into custody.”
Ammunition and cannabis were located on the driver and a loaded magazine and makeshift taser were found in the vehicle, police said.
Cook said that police also stopped another vehicle which was travelling with the BMW.
“Two females were taken into custody and a loaded 3D printed firearm was found in the vehicle which matched the items found in the BMW.”
He said it was “very pleasing” to take the weapon off the streets.
“Police will continue to patrol this area and are working with our partner agencies to ensure members of the public can be safe and feel safe while going about their business.”
A 29-year-old man will appear in Manukau District Court today on a number of charges including presenting a firearm at a person, unlawful possession of a firearm, failing to stop and dangerous driving, police said.
