Police investigating a homicide and aggravated burglary in the Wellington suburb of Miramar are appealing for information about a vehicle.

At about 2am on Monday, March 17, police were called to an address at Darlington Rd after the occupants discovered an intruder in their home.

Twenty minutes after police were called to the home, at 2.20am, 63-year-old Abdul Nabizadah was found with serious head injuries nearby at the intersection of Camperdown Rd and Totara Rd.

He later died in hospital and a homicide investigation was launched.

A 28-year-old man was later arrested and charged with aggravated burglary in relation to the first incident.

Police said a large team is working to establish whether these incidents were connected.

Officers now wanted to speak to the driver of a grey or silver Mazda Atenza or Mazda 6, 2006 model which was seen driving through the intersection between Darlington Rd and Camperdown Rd “several times”, between 11.50pm and 2.17am.

“The CCTV image shows the vehicle and the reference image shows the make and model of the vehicle sought.

“We hope that the driver of this car will be able to assist police with enquiries.”

Police asked the driver or someone who recognised the vehicle to get in touch.

Items of clothing left at burglary scene

Police said they were also interested in knowing more about two items of clothing left at the burglary scene on Darlington Rd.

“We believe that both items were left by the burglar and, while a person has already been charged in relation to the burglary, we continue to seek any information about the clothing items.”

“The first item is a white baseball hat with red swastika on the front.

“The second item is a pair of H & H size 8 woman’s gumboots.

“It is possible that these had been stolen from a nearby residence, maybe a back door, insecure shed or porch by the alleged burglar.

“Police ask that anyone who believes that these may be their gumboots to please contact us.”

Police said the earlier appeal for information on a man walking down Camperdown Rd from Totara St at 12.28am is still ongoing.

It said the man turned right in to Darlington Rd from Camperdown Rd at 12.28am and was “wearing a light-coloured top and dark pants”.

“We urge this person, or anyone who may know them, to come forward as soon as possible.”
