Two police cars responding to a crash involving a pedestrian walking on the motorway in Auckland’s north collided near the scene when one attempted a U-turn.
Officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian walking on the State Highway 1 near Moir Hill Bridge, between Puhoi and Warkworth, shortly before 9.30pm.
“The pedestrian sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident, and was transported to hospital,” a police spokesperson said.
During the course of responding to the incident, two police cars also collided near the scene.
“One of the vehicles was attempting to conduct a U-turn in order to access the crash scene on the opposite side of the motorway.”
“Fortunately both staff did not suffer any serious injuries as a result.”
The serious crash unit has done a scene examination of the “wider scene”, the spokesperson said.
