A person has been seriously hurt during a robbery at a store in Papatoetoe, south Auckland.

The incident at Pooja Jewellers in Kolmar Rd was reported to police at around 5.45pm on Sunday.

A statement from police said the Eagle helicopter was sent to the area. “However the offenders left in a vehicle prior to arrival and were not located.”

A person in the store has been “seriously injured after being assaulted”, the police statement said, and was taken to hospital.

Footage seen by 1News showed a man confronting the robbers and receiving a heavy blow to the head.

Inspector Keki Wilson said: “Police are working to piece together exactly what occurred, we are speaking with a number of witnesses and will conduct a scene examination.”

“Violent incidents like these rightly cause concern.

“Enquiries remain ongoing to locate the offenders and their vehicle,” says Inspector Wilson, adding police were committed to bringing the offenders to account.
