A person has died in a fiery single-vehicle crash in South Taranaki last night.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Livingstone Rd in Tokaora where a car hit a power pole just after 9pm.
Central road policing manager Phillip Ward said “sadly the driver, the sole occupant, has died at the scene”.
“An investigation is underway into the cause of the crash and the matter will be referred to the coroner,” he said.
“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the deceased’s family at this difficult time.”
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager told 1News the vehicle was ablaze after the crash, and the fire spread to nearby vegetation.
