One person has died and another person rescued following an incident on a cliff at Hahei Beach in Thames-Coromandel.
Emergency services responded around 8.15pm.
“One person was located at the bottom of the cliff face in a critical condition, however they later died at the scene,” a police spokesperson said.
The second person was located trapped on the cliff uninjured, police said.
A Lines Rescue Team from Fire and Emergency New Zealand was deployed to retrieve them.
The death would be referred to the Coroner.
Fire and Emergency spokesperson told 1News it was alerted to the incident, with volunteers from Hahei and a specialist rescue line team from Hamilton responding.
Crews rescued one person who was stuck on the cliffs.
