A person has been found dead following a fire in Auckland’s Ranui early this morning.
Emergency services were called to the fire on Swanson Rd at around 4.41am.
“Tragically, a resident of the home was found deceased inside,” police said.
“At this stage, the fire is being treated as unexplained and a scene examination is being conducted.”
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) described the building as a 5m x 3m cabin. A fire investigator was at the scene. It’s believed the cabin was at Western Park Village.
A spokesperson for the village said there is very little it can comment on at this stage due to the ongoing police investigation.
“All we can say is that this is a tragic event for our community and our thoughts are with the deceased, his family and friends at this time.
“All units at Western Park Village are Healthy Homes compliant (as per an MBIE check up in 2023) and all units contain smoke alarms.”
“It’s a sad day for the park. He was a well respected, long-term resident who certainly had his issues but a good guy with a big heart,” the spokesperson added.
Hato Hone St John said one rapid response unit and an ambulance attended.
