A person has been taken into police custody following an “altercation” at a property in Bay of Plenty this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to a “serious incident” between two people at a house on State Highway 30 in Awakeri, south of Whakatāne, around 4.30pm.
“One person appeared to have received critical injuries,” Inspector Nicky Cooney told 1News in a statement.
“The person taken into custody is assisting police with our enquiries.
“Police are not currently seeking anyone else regarding this matter.”
