One person has died after a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 29 in the Kaimai Ranges earlier today.
Another two people were injured in the crash, one critically and the other person was left with moderate injuries.
The crash saw motorists travelling between Hamilton and Tauranga facing a near 100-kilometre detour as the main road connecting the two cities was shut around midday.
Police announced the road has reopened in a statement shortly after 6.30pm.
Another person died after a Mount Maunganui, Bay of Plenty crash last night.
Police said emergency services were called to the crash at 10.17pm at the intersection of Aerodrome Road and Hewletts Road, Mount Maunganui.
A second person was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
The Christmas-New Year holiday road toll now stands at nine.
