Star Trek fans will be able to boldly go and bid when more than 200 rare items from the science-fiction franchise go under the hammer next month.
The pop culture phenomenon, set on board the starship USS Enterprise in the Milky Way galaxy, debuted on screens with its eponymous show in the 1960s.
The long-running franchise originally starred William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Commander Spock, DeForest Kelley as Lieutenant Commander Dr Leonard “Bones” McCoy, James Doohan as Lieutenant Commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott, Nichelle Nichols as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, and George Takei as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu.
Auction house Julien’s Auctions and Infinity Festival – a multi-day event for Silicon Valley and Hollywood creatives – have teamed up to present ‘Bid Long and Prosper’, an exhibit and auction featuring original props and costumes from Star Trek: The Original Series.
Among the items on offer are Captain James T. Kirk’s iconic yellow tunic and Starfleet trousers, which are expected to fetch NZ$108,000-NZ$141,000 at auction; and his phaser and communicator from the original series (NZ$166,000-NZ$331,000).
Fans will also be able to bid for the USS Enterprise helm and navigation console (NZ$82,800-NZ$116,000); and Spock’s robe and headband from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (NZ$16,500-NZ$24,850).
The auction will take place at The Aster in Los Angeles on November 9. An exclusive preview exhibit will be shown at the festival on November 7 and 8.

“It’s a chance for fans and technologists to celebrate the innovation and wonder that has defined the franchise for decades.”
