British actress Mia Goth has been sued after it was alleged she intentionally kicked a background actor in the head during a scene last April.
The complainant claims that he suffered a concussion after Goth kicked him during production on the film MaXXXine.
The film is the third in a trilogy of horror films directed by Ti West starring Goth, following X and Pearl. Both films were filmed back-to-back in the Manawatū region in 2021 amid lockdowns.
In the lawsuit, James Hunter said that he was hired for three days of work to play the role of a dead parishioner.
On the first night of production, he lay on the ground covered in fake blood for several hours, “enduring ants and mosquitoes”.
In the scene, Goth was to run past him, sometimes step over him, look down, and then keep running.
The lawsuit alleges that on the fourth take, Goth nearly stepped on him. Hunter complained to the second assistant director and the concern was relayed to Goth.
During the next take, according to the lawsuit, Goth deliberately kicked him in the head with her boot and later confronted him in the bathroom following the completion of the scene.
Hunter alleges Goth came in and “taunted, mocked and belittled” him, daring him to do anything about it.
He said that he felt pain in his head and that the fake blood caused him pain when he removed it.
On the drive home from the set, Hunter said he felt lightheaded and that he had to pull over twice. The following day, the casting agency told him that the production did not want him to return for the remaining two days.
The lawsuit accuses Goth of battery and also includes a wrongful termination claim against A24, the production company behind the film.
