Police are working to identify a man who was pulled dead from the Waikato River in Ngāruawāhia last night.

The man, who is believed to be in his 40s, was discovered by members of the public at about 6.30pm.

His body was recovered by the police search and rescue team.

At 425km long, the Waikato River is the country’s longest river. It passes through Lake Taupō, Huka Falls, Cambridge, Hamilton, Ngāruawāhia and Huntly, before it finally flows into the sea at Port Waikato.
