Police are investigating after an alleged assault in New Plymouth over the weekend.

The victim was approached by another man and his two sons at the Lee Breakwater about 4pm on Sunday, police said.

He was on the the jetty off Oceanview Parade.

“The first man was subsequently assaulted by the second man, and at one point was thrown off the jetty and held under water,” a police spokesperson said. “The nature of injuries led to the victim being hospitalised.”

Witnesses to the incident were urged to come forward.

“The offender is described as approximately two metres tall, with a solid build,” police said.

“He had waist-long dreadlocks held back by a black cloth.

“He has large tattoos, possibly a full sleeve on one or both arms, and was wearing a white singlet, black shorts and jandals.”
