A man has died after being hit by a truck in central Auckland this afternoon.
Police were called to The Strand shortly after 2pm following the crash between a truck and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was taken in a critical condition to nearby Auckland City Hospital, where he later died.
The Strand was initially closed following the crash but has since reopened following a scene examination.
“Enquiries are ongoing into the crash,” police said.
There have been previous calls for changes to the traffic-heavy Auckland street, a major feeder between the port and motorway network.
In May 2021, a cyclist was killed in a collision with a truck on Stanley St. Another cyclist was killed on the same street in 2014.
