A man has been charged with murder after the death of a 3-year-old girl in Northland earlier this week.
Police were called to a Tawanui Rd address in Kaikohe at around 6.15pm on Wednesday night where the girl was located unresponsive and despite medical treatment, died at the scene.
A scene examination took place on Wednesday and Thursday, with a team of 20 investigators working on the case.
Detective Senior Sergeant Christian Fouhy said inquiries would continue in the area over the next few days after the charge was laid.
“Victim Support is supporting the whānau and local community following this tragic death,” he said.
“As the matter is now before the courts, police cannot comment further.”
The 45-year-old man was expected to appear in Kaikohe District Court on May 26.
