A man accused of killing an 18-year-old in Auckland’s Grey Lynn last week has appeared at the Auckland District Court today.
Maxwel-Dee Repia died at the scene on Tuarangi Rd, Grey Lynn on Thursday evening.
A 19-year-old murder accused was arrested on Saturday along with another person.
He is also charged with wounding three other people with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Family and supporters of both the accused and Repia were seated in the public gallery today.
The man’s lawyer, Libby Brown, asked for interim name suppression due to the defendant’s mental wellbeing, while Sgt Hannah Marshall said the release of his name would assist the police investigation.
Judge Kirsten Lummis granted interim name suppression. It will expire in seven days unless the defence can make the case for keeping it in place.
The man will remain in custody until his next appearance in the High Court on September 25
Upon leaving the court supporters could be heard saying “I love you cuz”.
The judge offered her condolences to Repia’s family.
An 18-year-old charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact and accessory to wounding was also granted name suppression.
