The large grass fire near a winery in Marlborough has been contained.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said the fire was contained as of 2pm. Firefighters were called to the four-hectare blaze just before 11am.

Rural crews from Blenheim, Awatere, and Rarangi remained at the scene as of 4.50pm. All other crews have been sent home.

The focus is now on mop up, and ensuring the fire remains contained, a FENZ spokesperson said.

Earlier, six pumpers, four tankers and three helicopters were in attendance. The helicopters have since been stood down.

No injuries have been reported but a vineyard was evacuated by police as a precaution.

RNZ have reported that the vineyard was Yealands Estate Winery.
