The man who was killed in Hamilton while celebrating his upcoming 21st birthday on Sunday has been named by police.

He was 20-year-old Tyreece Te Pairi from Hamilton.

Te Pairi died from injuries sustained in a fight on Alexandra St during the early hours of Sunday. Three others were treated for moderate and serious injuries.

Police described the incident as a “senseless act of violence” and believed two groups of people were involved.

Detective Inspector Daryl Smith said police were providing support to Te Pairi’s family “as they come to terms with this tragedy and prepare to farewell him”.

Smith said the investigation team was assessing “every line of enquiry available to us”.

He said investigators wanted to hear from anyone in the area around Alexandra Sti, between 11.30pm on Saturday July 19, to 12.30am on Sunday.

“If you were in the area in the timeframe and have video, photos or dashcam footage, please upload them to our dedicated portal,” Smith said. “It’s possible you have captured something that will assist the investigation.”

The portal could be found on the police website.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of what happened and are evaluating evidence and information as it comes in,” Smith said.

“We urge anyone who can help to contact us as soon as possible and use the portal to share any photos or video they have.”

Yesterday, Smith said police were speaking to several witnesses and people involved in the altercation.
