Tonight’s Good Sort Trevor Goodin runs a health shuttle between Oamaru and Dunedin — but his business model is less about money and more about compassion.
He started after a desperate call from Janice, who had already missed an urgent oncology appointment. The old transport service had stopped suddenly, and Trevor stepped in. That was two years ago and he’s been driving ever since.
His passengers pay what they can. Some give nothing , and sponsors help, but Goodin says he’s about $40,000 out of pocket.
“I bought the shuttle myself. If someone’s loved one died because they couldn’t get to an appointment, I couldn’t live with that,” he said.
Along the way, his van has become a place of laughter, stories — and sometimes grief. “You become friends. Some people don’t make it. But I’ll never forget them.”
He said he never planned to keep driving this long but he can’t stop now.
“It’s a success story. Lives have been saved.”
