Police have released the name of the teenager killed in the Napier suburb of Onekawa in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Kaea Karauria, 15, was found critically injured at an Alexander Ave address following reports of a disorder event at 3.10am and died at the scene despite efforts by ambulance staff.
A second injured teenager was located at a nearby address on Cottrel Cres and was taken to hospital in a serious condition but had since been discharged.
Detective Inspector Martin James said a homicide investigation was launched yesterday with a team of 20 investigators continuing to make inquiries.
“No one has been arrested at this stage.”
James said a disorder event involving a group on Dinwiddie Ave may be linked.
“We understand the fact someone so young has been killed is very unsettling for the community.
“We are providing support to the whānau of the victim and assure the community we are working hard to understand what happened and hold those responsible to account.”

Footage captured by 1News on Monday afternoon showed a police presence continuing in the area.
A tent had been set up over the footpath and forensic staff conducted a scene examination.
Discarded alcohol bottles and cans were also visible in the street.
Cordons were placed at the intersections of Hitchings Avenue and Alexander Avenue, Dinwiddie Avenue and Wallis Place, and Alexander Avenue, near Dinwiddie Avenue, due to the scene examination yesterday.
