Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating two people who set a house on fire in Mangakino, northwest of Taupō, on Monday 24 June.

According to police, the pair started a fire at the back door of the Korari Crescent home at around 1am, causing extensive damage.

Fortunately, no one was inside the house at the time of the fire, and Mangakino Fire and Emergency Volunteers were able to stop the blaze from completely destroying the property, police said.

The pair’s actions were captured on video and police are seeking any information that could assist in identifying them.

One of those involved appears to have sustained burns and there are concerns they may be injured and avoiding the treatment they require.

Police also ask Mangakino residents who have CCTV to check it around the time of the fire and report any movement of people or vehicles in the area.
