Parker Posey and Jason Isaacs are among new cast members announced for the upcoming third season of HBO’s comedy drama The White Lotus.
They were revealed alongside Leslie Bibb, Michelle Monaghan, Dom Hetrakul and Tayme Thapthimtong as being added to the White Lotus lineup, Variety reports.
The six actors join season one star Natasha Rothwell, who is reprising her role as luxury hotel masseuse Belinda.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is expected the new season will follow guests at a different fictional White Lotus hotel location.
The season is set to begin production in Bangkok, Thailand in February, and has been teased by returning creator, writer and director Mike White as delving into eastern spirituality.
“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” White said in an HBO clip released alongside the season 2 finale.
“I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and eastern religion and spirituality.”
White added that the third season would be “longer, bigger, [and] crazier” than the first two instalments.
HBO have partnered with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) for the upcoming season, with the organisation’s governor, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, saying they were honoured to have “amazing Thailand” featured on the show, according to Variety.
“The kingdom’s exotic natural beauty, rich historical sites and diverse landscapes are the perfect settings to share our fascinating culture, fantastic cuisine, top-notch wellness and luxury offerings, and most importantly our people and Thai hospitality.”
The show was an instant critical hit upon release in 2021. Initially produced to be a limited series, the popularity of the show’s Hawaii-set first season led to HBO picking it up as an anthology.
Its second season, set in Sicily, has garnered 23 nominations at the upcoming Emmy Awards on January 15 – 12 of them in major categories.
