A person was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a car crashed into a house in Auckland’s Manurewa last night.

Emergency services responded to a report of a single vehicle crash in Manurewa shortly before 10pm.

“It appears the vehicle has crashed into a property on Goh Place,” a police spokesperson said.

Fire and Emergency NZ station officer Chris Lane told 1News the car was reported to be on fire when it crashed into the house.

“We arrived and found the occupant of the car being removed by bystanders.

“We’ve then come down and done a search of the house, to make sure there was no one in there and found the house to be pretty well smoke logged.”

He said a rescue tender was used to stabilise the house as the “main structure of the house was compromised due to the impact of the vehicle”.

Lane said there was a “substantial amount” of damage and risk that side of the house could collapse when the vehicle was removed.

Lane said this type of incident “happens from time to time, but this is a bit different”.

“Its definitely unique.”

One person was transported to hospital in a moderate condition and inquiries remain ongoing.

St John said the patient was in a “serious condition”.
