A body has been found in the search for a Hamilton fisherman, who went missing in the Raglan area last week.

Police say a member of the public saw a body in the water from a nearby footbridge earlier this afternoon. Police were called to the scene around 2.30pm.

“While formal identification is yet to take place, police believe the deceased is a 31-year-old Hamilton man reported missing last week.

“Police would like to extend our condolences to the man’s whānau and loved ones.

“Police will continue to make enquiries into the circumstances of the death on behalf of the coroner.”

It follows renewed calls for sightings by police for the missing man this morning.

He was last in contact with family on Tuesday.

Luke Berwick, 31, was believed to have been staying at the Raglan Holiday Park since last Monday with the intention of going fishing, police said earlier.

A fixed-wing aircraft was earlier used in search efforts alongside search teams.
