Transport Blast & Paint Ltd officially opened its new purpose-built paint and sandblasting shop at its Mosgiel premises last week.
Commercial manager Jarrod Hodson said the facility brought the two main components of the refinishing side of the transport industry together under one roof.
“So that saves a lot of mucking around and probably money for people that are wanting to get stuff blasted and painted.”
They were historically two separate industries and he believed that uniqueness could position the company as an “industry leader”, Mr Hodson said.
Director Brendan Morrison said the company had bought about 15,000sq m of land in Enterprise Pl, Mosgiel, and the paint and sandblasting shop marked the first of a total of three builds over the next few years.
The second build, a purpose-built five-bay truck workshop, was expected to be completed next year.
Construction of the third and final build, an engineering shop with office block, was expected to start between late 2026 and early 2027.
About three years of planning had gone into the overall project, with the first build taking about eight months to be constructed, Mr Morrison said.
He estimated the three-build project as a whole was valued at $10m-$12m.
Transport Blast & Paint Ltd was established in May this year and is among a group of companies all owned by Mr Morrison that serve the transport industry.
The facilities would service its own fleet as well as the wider transport industry, Mr Morrison said.
Mr Hodson said the overall project, once completed, would function as a heavy vehicle-oriented “hub”.
“Basically, everything they would need for that industry is on the one premises, instead of having to go to different places all around town, or even different cities in some cases.”
