Auckland’s skyline has been named “one of the most beautiful in the world” by a leading architecture magazine.

Architectural Digest mentioned the City of Sails alongside iconic skylines such as New York, Hong Kong, and Chicago on the list.

The top spot was New York’s Manhattan, while Hong Kong and Chicago took second and third place, respectively.

Australia also had a presence in the rankings, as Perth and Sydney came in at sixth and seventh.

Auckland came in at 16th place out of the 17 entries, just edging out Toronto, Canada, for the lower ranking.

Architectural Digest described Auckland’s skyline as a “lesser-known stunner that deserves more acclaim”.

Dominated by the 328m tall Sky Tower, which opened in 1996, Auckland’s skyline is in the midst of change.

In fact, five of the city’s 10 tallest buildings will have been constructed between 2019 and 2024 once the 187m Seascape building and the 160m Hotel Indigo are completed this year.
