Around 80 firefighters and 21 firetrucks were called out to a business in Avondale early this morning after an automated alarm alerted authorities to the fire.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) told 1News that the first crew arrived to see the fire on the first floor of a five-story building.

Crews from across the came to Avondale to help extinguish the flames, with crews from Glen Eden, Auckland City, Mount Roskill, Balmoral, Te Atatu, Titirangi, Parnell, Grey Lynn, Otahuhu, Birkenhead, Henderson, and Ellerslie all in attendance.

FENZ has said the fire is now extinguished, but one crew has stayed in place to dampen hot spots.

Two fire investigators are also on the scene.
