A 19-year-old has been charged with murder after two men were found shot in a car in Auckland’s Manurewa earlier this month, with one later dying in hospital.

Police located two people investigators alleged were involved in the incident this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rob Hunkin said he couldn’t rule out further arrests or charges as the police investigation was ongoing.

“A 19-year-old male has been arrested and charged with murder, wounding with intent, and unlawful possession of a firearm,” he said.

“Additionally, an 18-year-old male has also been arrested in relation to the matter, and has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

“Both men are due to appear in the Manukau District Court today, Wednesday 17 January.”

Earlier this month, armed police guarded the scene on Addington Ave after the incident in the early hours of New Year’s Day, January 1.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 3.20am, where two men were found “unresponsive” in a car with gunshot wounds.

The 19-year-old and 17-year-old were brought to hospital in a critical condition, but the former later died as a result of his injuries.

Hunkin said today: “We are continuing to appeal to the public for any information which may assist us with our investigation.”
