A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was shot and left critically injured in Palmerston North last month.
Police were called to an address on Tremaine Avenue during the evening of December 13 following a report that a woman had been shot by a person known to her.
She was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Police said today that the woman had since been discharged and was recovering at home.
“Since then, police have conducted several scene examinations and made a number of inquiries.”
These investigations led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man at the Kimbolton campground yesterday, with officers assisted by the armed offenders squad.
He was set to appear in the Palmerston North District Court today, charged with attempted murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police also arrested a 23-year-old man on unrelated firearms charges at the same location.
“We know the Police activity yesterday would have concerned some members of the public who were in the area, and we want to reassure them that as a result, a man accused of violent offending will now be held to account for his actions.”
